Our Grantmaking Process

High Meadows Fund does not accept unsolicited proposals for support.  We do, however, have a process for accepting letters of inquiry from interested 501c3 organizations.  If High Meadows finds a match with our areas of focus and our approach to grantmaking we may invite a full grant proposal.

Letters of inquiry should not exceed two pages in length, and may be sent electronically to gsymington@vermontcf.org.  We do not accept letters of inquiry through the mail.

Due to staffing changes this fall, High Meadows has a limited capacity to review and act on letters of inquiry through the end of 2011.  Interested organizations are welcome to submit letters of inquiry during this time, with the understanding that we are likely to be very selective in our requests for proposals.

We do not provide a form or prescribed set of questions for you to address in a letter of inquiry.  Generally, we would like to know what you hope to accomplish, what over-riding challenge you intend to address, and who would be leading the work.  We would also like to know the scale of the project and what level of support you would be asking of High Meadows, even if that’s just a ballpark estimate.

High Meadows welcomes letters of inquiry on a rolling basis.  However, feedback and decisions on whether or not to invite a grant proposal will be issued only at designated times during the year.  We ask that interested organizations observe the following deadlines for letters of inquiry:

  • February 27, 2012
  • April 7, 2012

It is our goal to respond to letters of inquiry within two weeks of the these deadlines.

Please contact Gaye Symington at gsymington@vermontcf.org or Sarah Simonds at ssimonds@vermontcf.org if you have any questions about this process.
